Our "Performing Violin Group" in Lansing, 2007. The students are working diligently at home and at our 7 after-school rehearsals in preparation for our 2008 Lansing trip. I have invited their principals (one of whom plays VIOLIN in our group), the Senators and House Representatives in which the students reside, as well as a member of the Michigan Department of Education.
We will be playing for the Freedom Weekend, in Cobo Hall, at the Public Policy luncheon where Dick Gregory will be speaking. I am hoping that the students and I get to meet him.

Ms. Paterni,
This is in response to your comment on the Web 2.0 site. I am not in Oakland County, and I agree it is sad that Youtube and other valuable resources are blocked by some school districts. What is even more sad is the non-valuable resources that would be available if those sites were to be opened. Spend a few minutes searching from inapropriate material on youtube and I think it will become clear why it is blocked. A car would also be a useful tool to any student, but there is a reason we make them wait until they are 16 to drive.
I am also a music teacher, although vocal and not instrumental. I have also had my students perform in the Capitol Rotunda. What a great experience it was for them. The tour that followed was an added bonus, and a chance to meet our local reps was terrific.
We should share musical ideas on using technology in our classes!
